Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.
AutoCAD Free Download is often the first 2D CAD software that people use after they graduate from high school, especially since there are few other options at the time. This was also the case with the original Autodesk SketchUp in which a user would receive the purchase of the software, a graphics tablet, and a free version of AutoCAD.
AutoCAD was first introduced to the design community by a developer at Autodesk named Ed Simons in 1982, which is credited as the beginning of the AutoCAD software development community. The first version of AutoCAD, released in December 1982, was a desktop application written for the Apple IIe. The first Autodesk representative to market AutoCAD was Scott Belsky, who sold the first AutoCAD version 1 licenses.
In the year of AutoCAD’s introduction, P.C. Richard & Son introduced the first AutoCAD-compatible mechanical drawing format, called DIN A4. The DIN format was later adopted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as DIN A4. AutoCAD was the first CAD program to use this mechanical drawing format.
AutoCAD is best known for its functions in drafting. AutoCAD is the primary 2D drafting application for civil engineering, industrial design, automotive design, architecture, and mechanical engineering. In addition to 2D drafting, AutoCAD is used for 2D and 3D modeling. In addition to designing 3D objects, AutoCAD can export 3D files to be used with other 3D software such as Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max, or Autodesk MotionBuilder.

Users can develop their own AutoCAD extensions
In 1983, Jonathon B. Axelrod invented the AutoLISP language and an environment that enabled users to create their own LISP applications within AutoCAD. Since then, AutoCAD has incorporated many of the applications and functions created by AutoLISP users.
The first time a MacIntosh computer was connected to AutoCAD was in February 1984, by Mark Baughman, the first computerized drafting assistant. The first version of AutoCAD to support MacIntosh computers was released in 1987. In February 2014, AutoCAD 2013 was made available for the Mac. In January 2016, AutoCAD 2016 was made available for the Mac.
AutoCAD did not support VBA until release 2007. However, a macro language called Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) was incorporated in AutoCAD 2003 and later versions. VBA was supported for 32-bit AutoCAD only, and had limited functionality. In 2011, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) was made available for 64-bit AutoCAD.
Users can customize AutoCAD for their own needs, by developing their own extensions.
In 2013, Autodesk released AutoCAD 360°, an innovative new solution that merges 2D drawing creation and 3D viewing and 3D design with a 360-degree environment, to give users a more immersive 3D experience of their drawings. It was made available for free to all AutoCAD users.
In 2014, Autodesk released its own plugin for Adobe Flash (SWF) called “AutoCAD360”. It enables users to create drawings and presentations, interact with engineering and design drawings and cut views. A beta version of the product was released in 2014.
In 2016, Autodesk released a development tool called AutoCAD 360 Create that enables users to create and view 3D immersive presentations and websites in 360°.

We are going to draw a simple straight section of a rectangle. The section will run from the beginning to the end of the sheet. The parameters to follow are shown in the following figure.
You will notice that a name for the section is already entered and you have a choice of paper type. If you select a photo, the drawing will appear in the background. This is because in Autodesk Autocad, the drawing tools are always visible in the background of your sheet. If you do not select a background, the drawing will appear on the sheet itself.
What’s New in the AutoCAD?
With Markup Assist, you can quickly send your design changes to your colleagues, to create a “second draft” version of your work in AutoCAD from other applications. (video: 1:15 min.)
