Overview of AutoCAD
AutoCAD provides a variety of CAD tools, such as 2D and 3D drawing, 2D and 3D drafting, 2D and 3D modeling, 2D and 3D utilities, plotters, plotter drivers, 2D and 3D animations, scanning, and measurement tools. A drawing is a description of the 3D objects to be created. A drawing created using AutoCAD can be printed on paper or it can be converted to the PDF, VRML, X3D, or MPEG formats.
The AutoCAD application is the most widely used CAD application on Windows PCs and Macs.
The biggest advantage of AutoCAD is its ability to use vector graphics. This means that objects can be scaled without losing the quality of the original drawing, which is unlike the most other CAD software.
AutoCAD’s raster graphics mode offers the ability to use raster-based images (bump maps, photographs, and rendered images) in combination with the traditional vector-based drawing features. The 3D sketching and direct modeling functionality of AutoCAD allows for 3D-based information to be entered into a working drawing. AutoCAD also supports the ability to import and export a variety of files.
In addition to AutoCAD, Autodesk also markets a line of other CAD-related products including 2D and 3D drawing, and modeling software, and related add-on software and services.
History of AutoCAD
Before Autodesk acquired and rebranded Autodesk Inventor, the first AutoCAD was released in December 1982. It was a solution for users who needed to draw vector graphics. While still a bit buggy, it did allow for the creation of geometric shapes that could be adjusted and modified using an intuitive interface. It had almost no features, except for some 2D annotation tools. Since then, a number of improvements have been made to AutoCAD.
In 1987, AutoCAD was made available to enterprise users. This was followed by its first major upgrade, AutoCAD 1987, which introduced a 3D drawing feature and a series of improvements to the 2D drawing and annotation tools.
AutoCAD 1989 was the first version of AutoCAD to be released as a shareware program.

As the design is created additional components are also included in the family design. These additional components are not required and can be disabled, but will appear to add aesthetic value. If a visual element is required, it can be placed on the family design context or the family style. Autodesk Architecture also supports the concept of a family style hierarchy. A family style hierarchy is used to order a collection of family designs. A collection of family styles, and the capability to extend a family style from any of the family designs in the collection.
The family designer is an architectural style authoring tool used to create the family designs. As a user builds a family style the family designer will make recommendations on what materials are required and will generate style objects from those recommendations. The family designer will also be able to interact with the family designs that have been built and make changes to their components.

The family design components are architectural style parts that allow users to build a specific architectural design within a family. These parts are divided into a variety of components. Each component may have a number of parts and each of these parts may be either a rectangular or a column. The rectangular parts of the components are textured and appear to be wood or brick and the columns are not textured.
A family design can be made into a family style. This is done by assigning a family context to the family design. A family style is similar to a family design and they share the same set of family design components. These components appear within the family style
